Tropicalia

Established by Tropicalia in 2008, Fundación Tropicalia is a non-profit organization that designs and implements customized socioeconomic development programs for the Municipality of Miches and the El Seibo province in partnership with the local community, civil society, government and international agencies and the private sector.

Fundacion Tropicalia manages high-impact, innovative initiatives in agriculture, gender equality, education, entrepreneurship and microfinance, focusing on four main program areas:

In 2018, Fundación Tropicalia celebrated its tenth anniversary. Over the last decade, more than 10,000 participants, of which 65% are children and teenagers, have registered for the various programs offered by the foundation.

Our Achievements in 2018

EDUCATION

489 students participated in our complementary education programs.

44 students participated in the newly re-launched League of Enterprising Farmers in Training (LEAF) Program.

2 new schools joined Fundación Tropicalia’s School Renovation and Maintenance Program (PRyME). 1,806 students and 86 teachers benefit from PRyME.

3 new college scholarships awarded. 2 scholarship students graduated college. 1 internship in Estancia La Querencia.

Environment

Costa Esmeralda and Playa Arribaenvironmental conservation programs (rescates) to support beach clean-up, designate parking, and install educational signage and trash collection points.

Construction of 2 and maintenance of 6 trash sorting stations in Playa Arriba.

39 participants in the ¡Miches, sí! program trained in the development and improvement of their business plans; 4 business plans awarded with seed capital.

9 entrepreneurs received RD$1,094,000 in financing through the ¡Miches emprende! rotational fund.

302 girls and 86 volunteers participated in Soy niña, soy importante girls summer camp program.
